As you pass through the sun-lit arched corridor to the hidden open-air courtyard of Arcos Restaurant, you immediately feel transported from the working streets of Fell’s Point to a corner café somewhere in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico. The courtyard is filled with terra cotta pots overflowing with aromatic garden herbs set on slabs of historic marble; the walls are adorned with an eclectic collection of hand-carved wooden figures, countless framed photos of Mexico’s most famous citizens, and a painted tile mosaic of The Virgin of Guadalupe. Somehow, the street noise from nearby Broadway seems to drift away as your ears begin to focus on the sounds of Mexican Ranchera music blowing in the breeze. As your eyes dash from one visual interest to the next, you wonder why you never noticed this place before.
